Sportsbook offers look simpler than casino ones and are not. Four clauses decide them, and the first is the one that is easiest to miss.
Stake returned, or not
Place a real bet at a price of 3.00 and a winning stake returns three times it — your money plus twice it in winnings. A free bet at the same price usually returns the winnings only. The headline figure is identical; the payout is a third smaller. That clause is worth finding before anything else in the terms.
The other three
- Minimum odds. A free bet that must be placed at a price above some floor cannot be used on a near-certainty, which is the entire reason the clause exists.
- Expiry. A short window turns a free bet into an obligation to find a market rather than a benefit.
- What a qualifying bet must be. Usually a real bet at a minimum price, sometimes settled rather than merely placed — which means the offer is not available until it has.
And the difference from the casino side
Casino bonuses are governed by a wagering multiple applied to a balance. Sportsbook offers are governed by conditions on a single bet. Where one balance serves both rooms, the terms usually say which turnover counts for which offer, and that sentence is the one that resolves most confusion. How casino wagering works, and why declining is often better.
Editorial order. Offer terms change without notice, so this site names the clauses rather than reprinting figures that go stale.
