The scheme, step by step
The operator generates a server seed and publishes its hash before play. You supply or are assigned a client seed. The result is derived from both, plus a nonce that increments per round. Afterwards the server seed is revealed and you can hash it yourself to confirm it matches the commitment.
Because the commitment was published first, the operator cannot have chosen the server seed after seeing your bet. Because your seed is an input, the operator alone does not determine the outcome. That is the guarantee, and it is a real one.
What it does not prove
It does not prove the house edge is small. The edge lives in the payout table and is unaffected by how honestly the result was generated. A verifiable game can take any margin the operator chooses.
